Course Description

Nationally recognized as an effective evidence-based fall prevention program, Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance® (TJQMBB) is a Tai Chi based exercise program designed specifically for balance training for older adults. This program is the result of over 15 years of research and development with a well-organized 8-form core routine and an extensive subroutine of integrated therapeutic exercises. As an evidence-based balance training modality for older adults, the program focuses on stimulating musculoskeletal, sensory, and cognitive systems via self-initiated, controlled movements with an emphasis on training limits of stability and balance recovery reactions. The TJQMBB exercises focus on improving sensory integration, limits of stability, anticipatory and reactive balance strategy control, functional adaption, cognitive multi-tasking and effective gait patterns with the goals of improving balance, enhancing performance of daily functional tasks, and reducing risk of falls.

In this course, you will learn selected TJQMBB forms and therapeutic exercises that are integral to this evidence based program. These exercises provide essential tools for every therapist to expand their balance training toolkit to address fall prevention intervention with older adults. Knowing Tai Chi beforehand is not required. Participants will apply the material learned in small group case applications to improve the management of patients at risk for falls.

Participants receive a TJQMBB Healthcare Toolkit booklet and online access to teaching videos
